Bio

A New Orleans native and familiar face, Dr. Amber Gafur brings extensive experience in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and transplant medicine. She earned her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston before returning to LSU for her fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Dr. Gafur subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in pediatric transplant hepatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She will be the state's first fellowship-trained hepatologist. Her clinical interests include pediatric hepatology, particularly the care of children with liver disease and pediatric liver transplant patients. Her research focuses on pediatric hepatology, including the impact of social determinants of health and equity-related factors on liver disease outcomes. Dr. Gafur is also passionate about medical education and legislative advocacy and has experience teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. She has presented her research at national and regional meetings, including NASPGHAN, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Southern Society for Pediatric Research.
