Bio
Madeleine Heck is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the LSU Health Sciences
Center (LSUHSC) in Baton Rouge. She received a B.S. degree in Biology from Nicholls
State University and an M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr.
Heck completed her Internal Medicine training at Earl K. Long Medical Center (EKLMC)
in Baton Rouge, serving as chief resident during that time. She completed her first
year of Fellowship Training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Louisville
in Kentucky, and her second year of Fellowship Training through the LSU School of
Medicine in New Orleans.
Her clinical activities include attending the Infectious Disease service at Our Lady
of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Dr. Heck also provides ambulatory care for patients
infected with HIV, with a primary focus on HIV positive pregnant women. Dr. Heck
is the Medical Director for the Ambulatory HIV Program , which currently serves the
needs of nearly 1700 patients. In addition to her academic responsibilities she also
maintains an active private consultative Infectious Disease practice in the Baton
Rouge community and surrounding areas. Her special interests include infection control
and antibiotic stewardship as well as the treatment of sepsis and infections in the
Critical Care arena.
