Bio
Jay Walker is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC).
He received BA degrees in both Chemistry and Physics, followed by a PhD in Physical
Chemistry (with emphasis in quantum mechanics and computational chemistry) from the
University of Mississippi in Oxford. He received his MD from the University of Mississippi
School of Medicine in Jackson. Dr. Walker completed his Internal Medicine residency
at LSUHSC in Baton Rouge and also served as Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship
in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at LSUHSC and Ochsner in New Orleans.
Dr. Walker spent 11 years in private practice as an intensivist with Mid-South Pulmonary
Specialists in the Memphis metropolitan area before rejoining the LSUHSC Baton Rouge
residency program as a teaching faculty member. Dr. Walker’s clinical responsibilities
include supervising LSU Pulmonary and Critical Care teaching services at Our Lady
of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Baton Rouge General Hospital. His interests
focus on critical care, medical education, curriculum development, and medical informatics.
He has completed the Epic Physician Builder and Physician Builder: Analytics certificates.
He coordinates the ICU resident rotation at Our Lady of the Lake, regularly attends
the LSU Pulmonary resident clinic, and participates in research under the direction
of Bud O’Neal and in association with PCCRG. Dr. Walker is a member of the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Society, the American Thoracic Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine,
and is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
In his free time, he likes to constantly annoy his teenage children and learn about
nerdy things.
