Biography
Dr. Zabaleta’s current research focuses on the role of disparities in cancer diagnoses in minority populations, especially breast and colorectal cancers.
He has served as director of the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center’s Translational Genomics Core (TGC) for more than 10 years and has expanded his expertise in molecular and genomic techniques aiming to identify markers of disease aggressiveness. As a research associate, Dr. Zabaleta worked on cellular and molecular immune response to H. pylori infection and its association with prostate cancer.
As a trainer and mentor, Dr. Zabaleta has worked with more than 30 students at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduated level, many of them from minority backgrounds, and have established long lasting collaborations with US and overseas institutions.
