Diego Aviles, MD, earned his MD from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1987. He completed his Pediatric residency at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine from 1987-1990, before serving a Fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at Georgetown University Children’s Medical Center in Washington, DC.  Dr. Aviles is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology.  He is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Nephrology at the LSU Health Sciences Center and also a pediatric specialist in Nephrology at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.  His research interests include T-cells in steroid resistant nephritic syndrome.
