Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program


 Number of fellows in the 3-year Cardiology fellowship training program - 12


As a Fellow, you will be expected to:

  • Rotate with each of our Staff physicians on several different services including consults, echocardiography, arrhythmia, cardiac catheterization, etc.
  • Attend weekly Cardiac Catheterization, ECG, Echocardiography, and Case conferences.
  • Attend and give lectures for Cardiology Grand Rounds and Journal Club.
  • Attend monthly research conferences and present your projects.
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure publication of research data.
  • Attend Core Curriculum Workshops.
  • See patients in the UMCNO Subspecialty Clinic weekly. {Continuity clinic}
  • Interact with students and residents in patient care and teaching.

  • All interviews during the 2023-2024 Recruitment Season will be virtual. 

Applying to our fellowship:

►►►You MUST be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident on form I-551, or a J-1 Visa holder to apply to our program.

There are 4 positions available each year

We will be accepting applications for the 2023 fellowship through the ERAS

system at

    There is a 1-month waiting period for health insurance
    through the State of Louisiana.
    Fellows beginning July 1 will have coverage August 1.

We require:

     • current curriculum vitae
     • three letters of recommendation, four maximum; one must be from your program
     • personal statement
     • ECFMG certification necessary for foreign medical graduates
     • USMLE scores
     • US Citizen
       Permanent resident (Form I-551 only)
ECFMG sponsorship as a J-1 exchange visitor. (you must be a J-1 visa holder at time
        of application to be considered).
  ♦ No EADs ♦ No H1B 

Proof of citizenship/residency/visa status required prior to interview.
