Bio
Dr. Haas is a board-certified dermatologist and serves as interim Chair of the Department
of Dermatology and Residency Program Director of the dermatology residency program at
Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans. He is an
academic leader dedicated to advancing dermatologic care, education, and research,
with a particular focus on complex medical dermatology and expanding access to care.
Dr. Haas is a Monroe native who earned his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences
Center in Shreveport, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted
into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his dermatology residency
at LSUHSC New Orleans, where he developed a strong foundation across the full spectrum
of dermatologic disease.
He has been instrumental in building innovative clinical and academic programs across
Louisiana. After completion of his residency in dermatology, he joined as faculty
at his alma mater medical school in Shreveport, where he founded the institution’s first
dermatology clinic in years, establishing a hybrid academic–private practice model
that expanded access to care for underserved populations while creating new opportunities
for clinical training and research for all ages and types of skin disease. He also developed
inpatient dermatology services for the main hospital as well as the women’s labor
and delivery hospital, multidisciplinary clinics, specialty clinics establishing regional
care for conditions such as cutaneous lymphoma, and educational initiatives aimed
at improving patient outcomes and training the next generation of dermatologists. In
2023, he joined faculty at LSUHSC Department of Dermatology in New Orleans.
Clinically, Dr. Haas has a strong interest in complex and immune-mediated skin diseases,
combinatory therapies for recalcitrant disease, treating skin of color, hidradenitis
suppurativa, and JAK inhibitors, and has played a key role in introducing advanced
therapies that allow patients to receive cutting-edge care closer to home. He remains actively
engaged in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and is committed to
mentorship, program development, and fostering a culture of excellence within academic
dermatology. His leadership continues to shape LSU’s dermatology program while maintaining a
patient-centered approach to care.
