West Jefferson Medical Center

PGY 1s rotate for one month blocks at West Jefferson Medical Center in the ED, the Pediatric ED and in the Anesthesia Department. Upper level residents rotate through the main Emergency Department.  WJ is located 15 miles from downtown New Orleans and is a tertiary referral center. All major subspecialties are represented. Residents can expect to perform in excess of 80 intubations per rotation under controlled situations with Anesthesia staff.

In the Emergency Department, all faculty are LSU EM graduates, and are boarded in Emergency Medicine. WJ's ED sees in excess of 50,000 patients per year with a very high acuity level. Residents work directly with staff and direct all trauma/medical resuscitations, and have the opportunity to perform all ED procedures.
