Caroline Burroughs is a native of Asheville, North Carolina and attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry with a concentration in pre-med. While attending UNC Charlotte, Caroline conducted her research in the chemistry department studying antibiotic resistance, a growing concern that threatens the global healthcare system. Caroline is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences in the Department of Genetics at LSUHSC under the mentorship of Dr. Ed Grabczyk. Her research in Dr. Ed Grabczyk's lab focuses on DNA repeat expansion and the specific molecular mechanisms responsible for over 30 genetic diseases, including Friedreich's ataxia and Huntington's disease. Following graduation, Caroline plans to attend medical school.
