Viral Oncology

The Hagensee laboratory research focus is on the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the development of oral, cervical and anal malignancies. We have a wide range of ongoing project that include basic biomarker discovery to find men and women at high-risk for HPV-related cancer, best treatment for pre-cancerous cervical or anal lesions, determining the underlying reasons for increases in oral HPV-related cancer in people living with HIV who are on anti-viral therapy, efficacy of HPV vaccination and strategies to overcome barriers to care for both cervical and anal cancer prevention.

Our laboratory works closely with Dr. Jennifer Cameron’s laboratory, and we focus on human-based studies with supplemental animal and culture-based model systems.
