Field of Research- Obesity and Cancer
Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and cancer. Recent research highlights the critical role of calcium (Ca2+) signals in lipid metabolism and cancer progression. Orai proteins are highly selective Ca2+ channels that mediate Ca2+ influx into all cell types and are essential for lipolysis, development, and metastasis. The primary focus of my lab is to investigate how Ca2+ entry through Orai channels regulates mitochondrial metabolism, neuronal development, and cancer progression, with the aim of understanding mechanisms that link obesity to cancer.
