Research Interests

We are interested in identifying the molecular underlying factors associated with cancer. One effort involves identifying gene expression differences between African American, European Americans and Hispanic women diagnosed with TNBC and luminal B breast cancer, and their association with demographic and clinical variables. Our work has shown that genetic ancestry is correlated with differential expression of genes associated with luminal B breast cancer. another area of interest is on gastrointestinal cancers in which we have shown, again, the interesting relationship between genetic ancestry and risk of developing advanced colorectal lesions (polyps) and colorectal cancer. Additional work had led to the identification of immune networks associated with the disease. We have established national and international collaborations resulting in multiple grants and publications.

Service

We provide genomic support to investigators from LSUHSC-New Orleans, as well as from local, national, and international institutions throughout the Translational Genomics Core, offering everything related to genomic analyses, including whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, RNA-sequencing, ChIP-sequencing, ATAC-sequencing, miRNA-sequencing, among other techniques. In addition, we provide services for single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, including at the single cell level.
