Bio

Dr. Rigby was Professor of Medicine and former Director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his B.S. from Mount Union College and his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Virginia and Hematology Fellowship at Boston University. He was Director of the Division of Hematology at The University of Nebraska and later served as Dean of the Medical School there. He moved to Louisiana to be Dean at the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. Dr. Rigby was Chancellor of Louisiana State University Medical Center from 1985 to 1994. He was the Director of Health Care Systems prior to his passing away. He was chosen to be a Markle Scholar and published 147 scientific papers and abstracts. His main focus, especially in the latter part of his career, was in the teaching and mentoring medical students and fellows.
