Louisiana Medical License

Incoming fellows must obtain a FULL physician's medical license in Louisiana. This process can take 3 - 6 months. Fellows that match must start the application process immediately. You must have a full Louisiana medical license to begin your fellowship, preferably 1 month prior. Please go the LSBME website and review the entire application process and requirements prior to applying for our fellowship.
NOTE: You must have your license approved in time for July 1.

Cardiology Fellowship Program

Number of fellows in the 3-year Cardiology fellowship training program - 12

As a Fellow, you will be expected to:

  • Rotate with each of our Staff physicians on several different services including consults, echocardiography, arrhythmia, cardiac catheterization, etc.
  • Attend weekly Cardiac Catheterization, ECG, Echocardiography, and Case conferences.
  • Attend and give lectures for Cardiology Grand Rounds and Journal Club.
  • Attend monthly research conferences and present your projects.
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure publication of research data.
  • Attend Core Curriculum Workshops.
  • See patients in the UMCNO Subspecialty Clinic weekly. {Continuity clinic}
  • Interact with students and residents in patient care and teaching.

  • 1 month of Research
  • 1 month of Vacation

  • 1 month of CCU/Cardiology Consult Service

Applying to our fellowship:
 

The are 4 positions available each year

We will be accepting applications for the 2019 fellowship through the ERAS

system at https://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/eras/fellowship_applicants/

We require:
 

     • current curriculum vitae
     • three letters of recommendation
     • personal statement
     • ECFMG certification necessary for foreign medical graduates
     • USMLE scores
     • US Citizen or
     • Permanent resident (Form I-551 only) or
     • ECFMG sponsorship as a J-1 exchange visitor.

       (must be a J-1 visa holder at time of application to be considered).

        Proof of cititzenship/residency/visa status required prior to interview.
