Abnormal Arrhythmia Interpretation and Treatment

OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES  At the end of this lab, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate and review the Primary CAB Survey use to assess and guide initial treatment (CPR and initial defibrillation) in unresponsive patients.
  • Demonstrate and review the Secondary ABCD Survey and provide advance management of patients. 
  • Demonstrate and review the use of antiarrhythmic drugs versus electrical (shock) for treatment.
  • Demonstrate arrhythmia recognition.   

Read the ecg interpretation and treatment (PDF format) handout and Bates (12th Ed) Chapter 9 (pages: 343-418) prior to the session.  Take on-line pre-test, then print and bring to scheduled lab session.  Also, there will be a practical group quiz and case discussion with this lab session.
