Dr. Peter Winsauer named Assistant Dean for Basic Science Research

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Winsauer has been appointed as Assistant Dean for Basic Science Research.  In this role, he will work with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Research, Department Heads and Center Directors to serve as a resource on faculty research opportunities.  He will Chair the School of Medicine Research Enhancement Program Review Committee, and he will help coordinate strategic planning efforts. 

Dr. Winsauer received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from American University in Washington DC.  He served as a research scientist at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda before joining the faculty at LSUHSC in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in 1995.  He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2000, and Professor in 2006.  In 2018 he was awarded the endowed L. Allen Barker Professorship in Pharmacology.  Dr. Winsauer has excelled in research, teaching, and institutional service.  He has been funded by the NIH for more than 20 years, has 78 peer-reviewed publications and over 130 published abstracts.  He has taught in the Medical, Nursing, Dental, Allied Health, and Graduate schools, and he has mentored numerous graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.  He won the Copping Award for teaching excellence in 2010.  He has served as a leader in the Faculty Assembly, and Faculty Senate, and he has served on numerous committees and workgroups including the Appointments and Promotions Committee.   In 2013, he received the Alumni Excellence Award in recognition of his many contributions to the School of Medicine.  In 2019, Dr. Winsauer was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET).
