Resident Rotation Schedule

PGY1 (Intern):

  • 6 months of ENT
    • 3 months of Head and Neck (Our Lady of the Lake & LSU Health)
    • 1 month of Otology/Neurotology (Our Lady of the Lake)
    • 1 month of Rhinology & Laryngology (Our Lady of the Lake)
    • 1 month of Pediatric Otolaryngology (Children’s Hospital of New Orleans)
  • 1 month of Vascular Surgery (Our Lady of the Lake)
  • 1 month of Pediatric Surgery (Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital)
  • 2 months of General Surgery (Lafayette General Medical Center)
  • 1 month of Anesthesia (Lafayette General Medical Center)
  • 1 month of ICU/Critical Care (Lafayette General Medical Center)

PGY2:

Baton Rouge (6 months)

  • 3 months of Head and Neck (Our Lady of the Lake)
  • 3 months of Laryngology (Our Lady of the Lake)

New Orleans (6 months)

  • 3 months of Pediatric Otolaryngology (Children’s Hospital of New Orleans)
  • 3 months at University Medical Center

PGY3:

Baton Rouge

  • 3 months at LSU Health
  • 3 months of Rhinology (Our Lady of the Lake)

Lafayette

  • 3 months at University Hospital and Clinics

Research

  • 3 months of dedicated research

PGY4:

Baton Rouge

  • 4 months of Head and Neck (Our Lady of the Lake)
  • 4 months of “Ologies” (Laryngology, Rhinology, Sleep)/Otology (Our Lady of the Lake)

Lafayette

  • 4 months at University Hospital and Clinics

PGY5:

Baton Rouge

  • 3 months at LSU Health
  • 3 months of Otology/Facial Plastics (Our Lady of the Lake)

Lafayette

  • 3 months at University Hospital and Clinics

New Orleans

  • 3 months at University Medical Center

 

Call Responsibilities

 

*All home-based call

Baton Rouge: Cover Our Lady of the Lake

  • Intern: Every 4th night weekdays, one weekend per month (all “buddy” call with another junior resident)
  • Junior (PGY2 & PGY3): Every 5th night weekdays, average 1 weekend per month
  • Senior (PGY4 & PGY5): Every 4th night weekdays, average 1 weekend per month
  • *ENT takes 1 week of trauma call per month (1 weekend, 4 weekdays)

Lafayette: Cover UHC

  • Every 3rd weeknight and every 3rd weekend
  • Cover facial trauma call mostly through outpatient referral (rarely go into hospital to see a trauma consult)

New Orleans:

Weekdays:

  • CHNOLA PGY2 on call Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday (cover CHNOLA only)
  • UMC PGY2 on call Wednesdays (cover both UMC and CHNOLA)
  • UMC PGY5 on call Mondays (cover UMC only)
  • Weekends:
  • Every 3rd weekend overall
    • CHNOLA: every 3rd weekend (4 total weekends over 3-month block)
    • UMC: 2 UMC call weekends over 3-month block (UMC call is split with Tulane residents)
       

*We make sure when you are on call at UMC, you are also on call at CHNOLA, so you end up taking a total of 4 call weekends during a 3-month block while in New Orleans
