Bio
Dr. Love is Chairman of the Department of Pathology for Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in New Orleans and holds the Jack Perry Strong, MD, Endowed Professorship
of Pathology. He is Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratories at LSU Health Sciences
Center in New Orleans, including its Precision Medicine Laboratory, and at University
Medical Center Hospital in New Orleans. He serves as the Service Line Physician Leader
of Core Specialties at UMC.
Dr. Love has held the position of Chairman since 2019, having joined LSU in 2016 as
Vice Chairman of Pathology following experience running laboratories in California
and serving on the faculty of the University of California School of Medicine at Davis.
He is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and a former member of
CAP’s Microbiology, Curriculum and Clinical Pathology Education Resource Committees.
He has performed more than 60 CAP hospital laboratory inspections across the United
States.
As a member of the American Board of Pathology, he served on its Microbiology Test
Committee for 13 years as Mycology Expert.
While in California he was Medical Director of the Quest Diagnostics Reference Laboratory
in West Hills (North Los Angeles), which processed some 50,000 blood vials daily.
Before working in the Los Angeles area, he was a member of Diagnostic Pathology Medical
Group in Sacramento.
He is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with further board certifications
in Cytopathology, Medical Microbiology and Medical Mycology. Besides running LSU’s
pathology department, overseeing a 12 member faculty and working with pathology residents,
he oversees the UMC Clinical Laboratory and shares in service-work including reading
Gynecologic Papanicolaou smears, interpreting electrophoresis, and evaluates fungal
cultures and stained preparations.
Dr. Love is the author of multiple books on medical mycology. He also has written
several book chapters on hyalohyphomycoses and mucormycoses, and numerous professional
articles.
