Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Experimental Therapeutics
The Department of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Experimental Therapeutics plays an important role in the educational and research missions of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans. Our faculty provides professional instruction in the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health and Graduate Studies.
In addition to teaching, our faculty conducts cutting edge research in such disciplines as cardiovascular, pulmonary, cancer, renal, central nervous system, and behavioral pharmacology as well as cancer molecular and cellular biology, neuropeptide and enzyme processing, protein biochemistry, gene promoter and expression analyses, molecular biology of aging, cardiac development, cancer genetics, and molecular epidemiology of cancer. Our faculty's research interests also include the areas of drug metabolism, genetics, molecular and cellular signaling, integrins and adhesion molecules and pain control.
Through the Graduate School, students can pursue a Biomedical Sciences Doctoral Degrees (PhD and MD/PhD) with specializations in Pharmacology or Biochemistry. Our graduates successfully compete for prestigious positions in academic (e.g., Stanford, SUNY, and Yale), government (NIH/NCI), and new industry startups. The MD/PhD graduates have similarly gone on to prestigious fellowships at top hospitals in many parts of the country. These excellent destinations for the graduates of this department are a credit to the faculty and staff of the department and the excellence of the environment in our School of Medicine.
