Salaries and Benefits
28 days (7 day work week, including Saturday and Sunday)
14 days of non-cumulative paid sick leave per year. Extended sick leave without pay is alloweable, at the discretion of the Department and in accordance with applicable law.
Health, flexible spending accounts and supplemental benefits are available through LSUHSC. Health plan options are available through the Office of Group Benefits (which includes several Blue Cross plans and Vantage Home HMO) and LSU First (the LSU System Health Plan), and eligibility goes into effect after one full calendar month of employment, provided proper paperwork is submitted on time.
House Officers providing services pursuant to the Agreement of Appointment are provided professional occurence liability coverage in accordance with the provisions of the Louisiana Revised Statutes 40:1299.39 et seq. House Officers assigned as part of their prescribed training under the Agreement of Appointment to facilities outside the state of Louisiana must provide additional professional liability coverage with indemnity limits set by the House Officer Program. House Officers while engaged in activities outside the scope of the House Officer program are not provided professional liability coverage under LSA-R.S. 40:1299.39.
All residents are eligible to participate in the Deferred Compensation program in lieu of Social Security. If this option is chosen, 8.95% of the resident’s gross monthly salary is deducted pre-tax for contribution to deferred compensation. The balance may be withdrawn, without penalty, or transferred to another retirement account when the resident leaves state service.
LSU Health Sciences Center provides disability insurance to all residents.
An annual stipend of $500 is provided to all Pediatrics subspecialty fellows. This stipend can be used for books, travel, licensure renewal, or society memberships.
Meal tickets are provided to fellows. In general, each meal card is good for 10 meals totaling $50 per month.
Privileges for the parking facilities at Children’s Hospital are issued to all residents at no cost. Security monitors all parking garages and parking lots on a regular basis.
To receive paid maternity leave available vacation leave and sick leave must be utilized. Paid and unpaid maternity leave for up to six (6) weeks or extended unpaid maternity leave may be granted. Paid paternity leave must utilize available vacation leave. Extended leave without pay may be granted. LSUHSC does not grant paid paternity leave beyond the normal vacation allotment, but unpaid leave may be taken.
All fellows are invited to join the LSU New Orleans Housestaff Association
- Department of Pediatrics lab coats are available for use at no cost.
- A 5% discount is available to residents at the LSUHSC bookstore with LSUHSC identification.
- LSU has an extensive library with electronic retrieval.
- A beeper is provided at no cost.
- LSUHSC has an institutional subscription to Up to Date, which residents may use free of charge.
