The LSU residents provide coverage for numerous hospitals within New Orleans. Day call is covered by the rotating residents at each hospital, while night call is pooled among all residents.
Our major teaching hospital, which opened in August of 2015, is a state of the art facility that serves as the only level one trauma center for the city of New Orleans and as a major referral center for Louisiana and western Mississippi. We do a high volume of free flap reconstruction for traumatic extremity wounds and breast reconstruction as well as facial trauma, hand surgery, and general plastic surgery.

PEDIATRIC PLASTIC SURGERY ROTATION
This rotation focuses on the evaluation and management of the entirety of pediatric plastic surgery. The anchor of this rotation is the craniofacial/cleft team, the largest cleft team in the South. Residents also are involved in the treatment of congenital deformities, vascular malformations, burns, and pediatric trauma.

The focus of this rotation is primarily on general plastic surgery with highlights including skin cancer excision and reconstruction, cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, body contouring, and management of complex wounds.

HAND SURGERY ROTATION
A three month rotation dedicated to the management of the upper extremity. Residents will gain adequate knowledge and skill to diagnose and repair injuries, disorders and diseases related to the forearm, wrist, and hand.

BATON ROUGE ROTATION
This rotation is spent with a number of different private practice surgeons in Baton Rouge, LA. The bulk of the case volume is aesthetic and elective outpatient procedures, however residents also take part in some in patient trauma reconstructions as well. Despite being away from New Orleans, it is consistently a favorite rotation of the residents.
