Adult Psychiatry Residency Program

Welcome to the General Psychiatry Residency Program!  The LSU-Ochsner Psychiatry Residency Training Program is dedicated to training our residents to become well-rounded psychiatrists who are capable of excelling in any setting after graduation. Our residents are exposed to a diverse patient population and a wide range of diagnoses in both public and private settings. We are trained to be practical, “hands-on” physicians with great empathy and commitment to their patients. Our faculty with their diverse backgrounds and interests adds to the educational breadth and allows our residents the opportunity to tailor their training according to their individual needs and interests. Here are some reasons why you should choose our program:

Work-Life and Wellness
  • Residents are in charge of the call schedule, so no-one has to miss out on the important events in their lives.
  • We have no in-house call on nights and weekends! Intern call shifts end at 10:00 p.m.  Third and fourth years have no call required weekend or night call at all!
  • We are a tight-knit community. We work as a team, and enjoy spending time together.
Program Faculty and Leadership
  • Our program is very receptive to feedback and changes are made in real-time. Residents have ample opportunity to provide feedback.
  • Our faculty members are all approachable, supportive and devoted to excellence in teaching. Faculty members know all residents by name.
Perks
  • Second, third and fourth year residents have the opportunity to do  compensated call (internal “moonlighting”). Requirements: Step 3, good standing and good PRITE scores.
  • Fourth year residents also have available to them many fascinating electives, including Neuroradiology, ECT training, Sleep Medicine, Palliative Care, and much more.
  • We are able to train in one of the most unique, culturally diverse, and exciting cities in the world!
