Salary & Benefits

$28,000; Low cost health and/or dental insurance is also available for purchase by psychology interns. Optional 24-hour covered parking at LSUHSC Medical School Building located at 1542 Tulane Avenue is available to interns at a reduced rate. A full-time administrative assistant is dedicated to the psychology internship program and can provide administrative support to interns.

The State of Louisiana provides professional liability coverage to intern when acting within the scope of their training.

Holiday schedule depends on the rotation and generally follow State of Louisiana official holidays. Typically, LSUHSC holidays include: Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Years’, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mardi Gras Day, and Good Friday.

Annual Leave (Vacation) and Educational Leave

Psychology interns may take ten working days of annual leave during the training year.  Up to five days of educational/professional leave (i.e., for completing dissertation, presenting at conferences, etc.) may be granted subject to prior approval by the Training Director. Interns may take no more than one week (five working days) of vacation/educational leave during the last two weeks of the training year. Annual leave requests must be submitted in writing and approved in advance by the Director of Internship Training.


Sick Leave

Five days per year.


Maternity/Paternity Leave

A psychology intern must utilize available annual leave and sick leave in order to receive paid maternity leave. Maternity leave for up to six (6) weeks or extended unpaid maternity leave may be also granted by the University and is in compliance with FMLA; however, extended maternity leave may require the psychology intern to make up these days by extending the training year beyond the usual June 30th completion date.  Paternity leave is also available and interns must utilize available annual leave time.
