University Medical Center

Our brand-new 2.3 million square-foot hospital opened in August of 2015, offering 456 beds, 60 inpatient and 20 emergency psychiatry beds, and the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. At UMCNO, we treat a wide variety of medical and surgical illnesses, and we are the tertiary care center for the region.  University Medical Center, located in downtown New Orleans, is in close proximity to the LSU Health Sciences Research Center the Medical Educational Building.  Our PGY1’s rotate on the Inpatient Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Neurology services at UMCNO. PGY2s rotate on the Addiction Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Services.  Our PGY3 residents have the opportunity to participate in collaborative care, being embedded in the Trauma Surgery clinic, the Oncology clinic, the HIV clinic, the high-risk OB clinic, the Bariatric Surgery clinic or the Gastroenterology clinic. And finally, PGY4 residents provide support as junior attendings on all psychiatric services and have a wealth of elective opportunities at this beautiful facility.
