Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) clinicians are providing therapeutic school-based interventions with children and families, as well as trainings and consultations to school administration and personnel. School screenings are carried out by the school in collaboration with LSUHSC clinicians to identify children and adolescents who meet the cut-off for services and/or who request services. For younger children, the screener will be filled out by the parents who can also request services that indicate they wish to speak to someone.
Clinicians work collaboratively with school administration, principals, school counselors, and teachers to identify and collaboratively provide services to those children most in need of services. Clinicians are available for consultation across the school system related to children and adolescents who may be having a difficult problem that are not in one of the identified schools with enhanced services. Currently, LSUHSC clinicians run bi-monthly group consultation meetings with school counselors and social workers from Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes that allow these school leaders to discuss and process difficult cases and situations that are occurring in their perspective schools.
