Each week will begin with a lecture-style overview of the subjects to be learned for the week. Students will then work at their own pace to learn the basis of infectious and immunologic diseases using multiple instructional tools, including textbooks, computerized files of integrated notes, graphic images and specific internet sites containing notes.
Supporting this system of adult-style self-learning will be question and answer sessions, conferences, and laboratory exercises designed to emphasize the most clinically relevant points. Students are expected to master the basic principles of immunology, virology, mycology, bacteriology and parasitology. Of special importance are the immunologic components of pathogenesis and host defense as well as the chemotherapy of these infections.
