Program Director’s Welcome

Welcome to the LSU Internal Medicine Residency Program in New Orleans. We are truly honored that you are taking the time to learn more about our program. Choosing where to train is one of the most important decisions in your career, and we are committed to providing an environment where you will feel supported, challenged, and inspired every day.

Our mission is to cultivate not only outstanding clinicians, but compassionate physicians and future leaders in medicine. You will train in a dynamic and diverse clinical environment, caring for the communities of New Orleans and the surrounding region—patients who will both challenge you and profoundly shape your growth as a physician.

Our faculty are deeply invested in resident education and mentorship. We pride ourselves on approachable leadership, meaningful autonomy, and hands-on learning grounded in strong pathophysiology. By incorporating the latest advances in clinical medicine—including point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and other innovative tools—we ensure that our residents graduate confident and well prepared for any career path, whether that be fellowship, academic medicine, hospital medicine, or primary care.

Training across multiple hospital systems provides exposure to a wide breadth of pathology and practice settings, offering a truly comprehensive experience that mirrors the environments you will encounter in your future career. Just as importantly, we foster a collegial culture where teamwork, wellness, and mutual respect are prioritized.

New Orleans itself is an extraordinary place to live and train—rich in culture, history, resilience, and community. We believe the spirit of this city is reflected in our program: hardworking, welcoming, and deeply committed to service.

We invite you to explore our website and envision yourself here. We would be proud to support you over the next three years as you grow into the physician you aspire to become.
