Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship
The Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Program is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program, Directed by Rima El-Abassi, MD. Our Program accepts applications for one (1) approved position from residents who successfully complete an ACGME-accredited residency in Adult or Child Neurology.
The fellowship offers two separate tracks:
The EEG track that provides clinical experience in the outpatient and inpatient clinical setting through a panel of comprehensive epilepsy testing procedures including invasive and noninvasive Long-term EEM monitoring, Responsive Neuronal Stimulator, Wada testing and neuroimaging (MRI, PET, fMRI, and SPECT) in the adult and pediatric population.
The Neuromuscular Disorders / EMG track enriches the fellow trainees with expertise in diagnosing motor neuron diseases , nerve, neuromuscular junction and muscular disorders and provides training and deep understanding of routine and sophisticated neurophysiologic procedures including skin biopsy and Single Fiber EMG.
These tracks have some flexibility and schedules can be tailored to the interests of the individual fellow.
The LSU ALS Clinic has successfully achieved designation as a Certified Treatment
Center of Excellence (CTCE) through The ALS Association as well as is a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Center of Excellence.
