Welcome to the Critical Care/Pulmonary Section
Our Pediatric Critical Care division provide services at Children's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a 20-bed multidisciplinary unit providing comprehensive care of critically-ill medical and surgical patients. The division’s nine interventionists have established and continue to lead the PICU service line at children’s, added a neuro-intensivist and an NIH funded professor level member. Their leadership has led to the establishment of several new programs including Level 2 trauma, liver transplant and a burn program.
The Division of Pediatric Critical Care, over the past few years, has grown to include
nine intensivists.
Individual Achievements:
- Dr. Amy Creel was elected to the COMSEP executive council (national position)
- Dr. Richelle Monier has assumed the role of faculty for the LSU Training Center Faculty for PALS and the directorship of the SIM center at Children’s
- Dr. Kayla Phelps published an article in the New England Journal of Medicine
- Dr. Carrie Henderson and Dr. Susan Glass initiated a multi-center, NIH funded study to optimize the process for decisions around home ventilation in children
- Dr. Zachary Daniels has developed the first pediatric stroke protocol in the region
- Dr. Nihal Godiwala was elected to the medical executive board at Children’s Hospital
- Dr. Hannah Bauer served as the site Principal Investigator (PI) for a multicenter study exploring social determinants of health
- Dr. Gary Duhon was named the Director of Medical Ethics at LSU Medical School.
