Treatment - Medication Blood Level Monitoring

The best way to find out if a medication will work is to gradually increase the dosage until either dose related side effects, such as fatigue and drowsiness, occur or seizures stop. Although blood levels can give some idea of the likelihood of side effects they are only statistics so that some people will be able to tolerate and benefit from very large doses whereas others cannot tolerate very small doses. Therefore the main reasons to get blood levels are to determine if blood levels are unexpectedly low, or if drug interactions are occurring.
