Letter from the Dean after the Survey Visit

On October 22, 2025, the LCME Survey Visit Team completed their three-day visit to our campus. They conducted a very thorough review of our curriculum, student services, learning environment, facilities, research enterprise, administrative processes, finances, clinical resources, leadership, relationship to the LSU System, and relationships with our clinical partners. We will receive their preliminary findings in the coming weeks, and we will receive the final report about the school’s re-accreditation in late February.

The survey visit team was very impressed with our faculty, students, residents, programs, and facilities. They were also very complimentary about the thoroughness of the reports we submitted, the hospitality and professionalism our staff demonstrated during the visit, and the preparedness of the groups they met with.  While we will not know the final results until February, we are confident that the school will do very well. That is a testament to our outstanding programs, faculty, students, staff and facilities. These rigorous reviews occur every 8 years, and they confirm what we know about the outstanding nature of LSUHSC and the School of Medicine.

The success of this survey visit would not have been possible without the leadership of Dr. Robin English. Her commitment to the school, the students, and our programs inspires all of us, and we owe her a sincere debt of gratitude. We are also thankful for the hard work of the faculty and staff in her office, and the hard work of the nearly 200 faculty, staff, and students who have prepared for our reaccreditation over the last two years.

I am honored to be a part of the LSUHSC and School of Medicine community, and I am grateful for what you do every day to make this an outstanding institution.

Richard DiCarlo, MD
Dean

Final Outcome:

We expect the results in late February 2026
