Internal Medicine

Dr. Michelle Loch (Hematology-Oncology) recently published as senior author Assessing the effect of blood type on death and a novel scoring system to assess clinical course in patients with COVID-19 in the American Journal of the Medical Sciences.

Dr. Agustin Garcia (Hematology - Oncology) recently published Phase II Study of Taselisib in PIK3CA-Mutated Solid Tumors Other Than Breast and Squamous Lung Cancer: Results From the NCI-MATCH ECOG-ACRIN Trial (EAY131) Subprotocol I in JCO Precision Oncology. This Phase II study explored the use of Taselisib, which is known to be efficacious in breast cancer, in other solid organ tumors.

Dr. Garcia also published Bariatric surgery in patients with breast and endometrial cancer in California: population-based prevalence and survival.

The sections of Nephrology and Geriatric Medicine recently collaborated on the published paper Depression and Anxiety in Residents of a Retirement Community during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Several Nephrology faculty have recently published Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Hypertension: Updates to a Critical Relationship in Current Hypertension Reports. Dr. Farshid Yazdi, Dr. Jonathan Owen, and Dr. Efrain Reisin collaborated with two LSU medical students - Dr. Brown is now an Internal Medicine resident in New York and Dr. Jodari-Karimi is an Internal Medicine resident at LSU. 

Dr. Matthew Lammi, Dr. Ben deBoisblanc and their Pulmonary Medicine colleagues recently published these two paper on use of ultrasound: Jugular Venous Ultrasound Predicts Outcomes in Pulmonary Hypertension Outpatients and Use of Handheld Ultrasound to Estimate Right Atrial Pressure in a Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic.

Dr. Paul Harch (Emergency Medicine) recently published Systematic Review and Dosage Analysis: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Efficacy in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Persistent Postconcussion Syndrome.
