Bio
Patrick Greiffenstein, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in New
Orleans, where he also holds the Lori Whited Lacoste Professorship in Clinical/Trauma
Surgery. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University and completed his
general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at LSU Health Sciences
Center. Dr. Greiffenstein serves as TICU Director and Chairman of Credentials for
UMC New Orleans.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Greiffenstein is currently the Program Director for our
Critical Care Fellowship. He has developed multiple surgical training programs, including
advanced trauma and critical care courses.
His research spans trauma resuscitation, chest wall injury management, and surgical
education, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Greiffenstein
has been recognized for his contributions to teaching and clinical excellence through
multiple awards, including the Dr. Alan A. Copping Award for Teaching Excellence.
