Bio
Dr. Peter Lundberg was raised in Massachusetts and completed his undergraduate studies
at Boston College before earning his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago.
During his residency in general surgery at Tulane University, he fell in love with
New Orleans, returning to practice here after completing an advanced fellowship in
bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at St. Luke’s University Health Network.
Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Lundberg provides comprehensive
general surgery with specialized focus in bariatric, foregut, and advanced hernia
care. His clinical expertise includes sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal
switch, and revisional weight-loss procedures, as well as surgical treatment for GERD/acid
reflux, hiatal hernias, and complex abdominal wall hernias. Utilizing laparoscopic
and robotic minimally invasive techniques, he aims to shorten recovery times, lower
complication risks, and minimize post-operative discomfort.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Lundberg is widely published in peer-reviewed surgical literature
and holds leadership roles in state and national chapters of the American Society
for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Through these roles, he actively advocates
for provider education, expanded healthcare access, and patient awareness.
Above all, Dr. Lundberg prioritizes building meaningful relationships with his patients.
He takes time to listen, understand each individual's goals, and collaborate on a
personalized treatment plan as a team.
