Bio
After graduation from McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada, Dr.
Ortenberg completed his Urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio
where he was awarded the Crile Travel Fellowship to study Pediatric Urology in London,
England & Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Ortenberg completed the ABU-accredited Clinical Fellowship
in Pediatric Urology at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Dr. Ortenberg has received certification as a Diplomate from the American Board of
Urology as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. In addition
to qualifying as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics in Urology, Dr. Ortenberg
has been inducted as a Fellow of the Society of Pediatric Urology. Dr. Ortenberg completed
initial Subspecialty Certification in Pediatric Urology by the American Board and
is currently recertified.
Dr. Ortenberg is a member of multiple subspecialty societies, including the Societies
of Pediatric Urology, the International Children’s Continence Society and the Society
of Female Urology & Urodynamics. He has been a member of the scientific committee
of various organizations. He previously served as President of the Society of Fetal
Urology as well as President of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists and
has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Urology Section of the American
Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Ortenberg was a fulltime faculty member of LSU School of Medicine for 40 years
& holds the rank of Professor in the Departments of Urology and Pediatrics. In addition
to serving as the Training Director for Pediatric Urology in the LSU Urology residency
training program, Dr. Ortenberg was the Director of Urology at Children’s Hospital,
New Orleans where he has an active clinical practice with a special interest in perinatal
urology and urogenital malformations.
In addition to delivering presentations at many national and international meetings
such as the European Society of Pediatric Urology, British Association of Pediatric
Urologists and World Congress of Pediatric Urology, Dr. Ortenberg has served as a
Guest Surgeon & Lecturer at meetings of the Asian Society of Pediatric Urology. Dr.
Ortenberg has served as team leader for many volunteer medical missions, to provide
clinical / surgical care and physician education in pediatric urology throughout the
Caribbean area. He has published many scientific articles and book chapters and serves
as a reviewer for national and international journals of different medical and surgical specialities .
In recogntion of his service to the children of Louisiana, Dr Ortenberg received the
Bettina Hilman award from the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Ortenberg retired in 2022 and remains an active member of the Urology department
as a Gratis professor and Professor Emeritus.
