Bio

Dr. Christopher Roth graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. Dr. Roth was awarded the University Medal for the highest academic average in his graduating class. He received his medical education at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport where he earned the Robert K. Womack Memorial Award for excellence in the study of urology and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Following medical school, Dr. Roth moved to New Orleans for his urologic training which he completed as a resident in the LSUHSC-Ochsner Clinic Foundation residency program. After residency he pursued additional training in pediatric urology and completed an ACGME accredited two-year pediatric urology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As a fellow he completed a year of basic science research with an emphasis on tissue regeneration of the urinary bladder. The work completed by Dr. Roth and his collaborators during his time in Oklahoma resulted in numerous papers and a book chapter on tissue regeneration in urology. 

Dr. Roth returned to the Department of Urology at LSUHSC-New Orleans in 2009 and began his clinical career at Manning Family Children’s.  His initial focus was growing clinical programs that matched his areas of interest in urology.  He was able to help initiate a multidisciplinary clinic for children with spina bifida, promote coordinated care for patients with end stage renal disease and renal transplants, and helped pioneer robotic surgery at Manning Family Children’s.  The groundwork laid through these programmatic changes elevated the level of urologic care for patients of the region and has resulted in the pediatric urology program being recognized by the US News and World Report.  Along with these clinical expertise, Dr. Roth developed an interest in administration which grew through participation in medical staff operations and hospital committees. He is a former president of the medical staff and remains actively involved hospital committees centered on perioperative operations.  Based on the combination of clinical contributions and administrative interests, he was promoted to Service Line Chief for pediatric urology in 2022 and served in that role until being promoted to Associate Chief Medical Officer, Surgery in 2026.

Dr. Roth has also actively served the LSUHSC School of medicine through participation in the formal medical student curriculum and through student mentorship.  He is a former member of the faculty assembly and a 2023 recipient of the Chancellor’s Excellence Award. He has been an active member of the Department of Urology with former roles of faculty advisor for the urology interest group and chair of the UroTigers alumni society.  He has remained active in urologic societies including the American Urological Association, the Societies for Pediatric Urology, and the American Association of Pediatric Urologists where he served on the executive board and as president. Through this combination of activities, Dr. Roth has progressed through academic promotions earing the title of Professor of Urology in 2024.

Many of Dr. Roth’s pursuits have been fueled by the desire to improve the overall healthcare for citizens of Louisiana and the Gulf South and the drive to help educate future generations of urologists.  The opportunity to further these objectives was recognized when he was named Chair of Urology at LSUHSC in 2025. He remains dedicated to serving the department while looking for opportunities to position his fellow faculty members and residents into clinical, academic, and research positions that help them achieve their personal goals. Dr. Roth believes that elevating each individual to their optimal level will position LSU Urology for success both now and for years to come.
