Bio
Dr. Hossein Sharifi is a urologic surgeon specializing in urologic oncology and minimally
invasive surgery. He has extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and surgical
management of cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, testis, and other genitourinary
organs.
Prior to joining LSU Health New Orleans, Dr. Sharifi completed advanced fellowship
training in Minimally Invasive Urology at the Medical University of South Carolina
and in Urologic Oncology at the University of Miami. His training and clinical practice
have focused on advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgical techniques
for complex urologic diseases.
His clinical practice focuses on comprehensive management of genitourinary cancers,
with particular interests in prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer. He has expertise
in robotic and minimally invasive urologic oncology surgery and advanced prostate
cancer diagnostics, including Transperineal prostate biopsy and MRI-targeted biopsy.
Dr. Sharifi is also actively involved in clinical and translational research. He has
authored 37 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at national
and international meetings. His research interests include prostate cancer diagnosis
and active surveillance, MRI-targeted and Transperineal prostate biopsy, bladder cancer,
minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and development of novel technologies in urology.

His translational research includes the development of novel drug-delivery technologies
for the urinary tract. He developed and patented a catheter designed for electromotive
drug administration (EMDA), a technique that uses a low electrical current to enhance
