DENT 1118 Microbiology and Immunology - 70 hours
This comprehensive course covers the basic tenets of Microbiology (including bacteriology, mycology, virology, and parasitology) and Immunology and the application of these principles to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. Major emphasis is placed on the oral micro-flora and immune defenses of the oral cavity as they relate to local and systemic disease.


DHY 3201 Microbiology - Dental Hygiene - 3 credits
This course comprises 43 one hour lectures and serves as an introduction to the basic principles of bacteriology, immunology, virology and mycology with special emphasis on how normal and potentially pathogenic microbial flora of the oral cavity contribute to both systemic and oral disease. Methods of sterilization and disinfection are also stressed along with their application to the prevention of cross contamination in the dental office.
