Patrick is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, who attended school in Montgomery, Alabama, and later moved to Birmingham to work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

At Auburn University in Montgomery, he received a BS in Psychology, an MS in Psychology and BS in Molecular Biology. In 1995, he received his Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He then completed one year of studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

He is currently Lab Manager/Research Associate 3 in the lab of Dr. Andrew Hollenbach. This lab focuses on understanding the cell biological mechanisms underlying the formation of the childhood solid muscle tumor alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS). His current project is investigating the role of phosphorylation on the biological and biochemical functions of Pax3 and Pax3-FKHR, and examining the regulation of Pax3 and Pax3-FKHR through protein-protein interactions.

Previous to this position, he worked in the lab of Dr. Alistair Ramsay, as part of the Gene Therapy Program at LSUHSC. There he worked on vaccine development using prime-boost strategies.

Before moving to New Orleans from Birmingham in 2002, he worked for BioCryst Phamaceuticals, Inc. as a biologist and certified phlebotomist. He was involved with the Pre-clinical development of inhibitors of T-cell purine nucleotide phosphorylase for cancer and autoimmune disorders; pre-clinical development of inhibitors for the Hepatitis C NS5B RNA polymerase; pre-clinical development of inhibitors of the Tissue Factor/Factor VIIa complex of the coagulation cascade.
