Dr. Juzar Ali

Dr. Ali is Professor of Medicine who previously served as the Medical Director of the Interim LSU Hospital (ILH). He is currently the Director of LSUHSC Chest and Tuberculosis (TB) Clinics. He has worked locally and internationally in the field of TB and has developed programs that contribute to the education of medical students, allied health professionals, and the community.



Dr. Bennett deBoisblanc

Dr. DeBoisblanc is Professor of Medicine and Physiology and the Director of Critical Care Services at ILH. He specializes in pulmonary hypertension, acute lung injury, sepsis and critical care. He has been nationally recognized for his expertise in bedside critical care procedures, for his clinical excellence as a member of the Best Doctors in America and as a teacher.



Dr. Kyle Happel

Dr. Happel is Associate Professor of Medicine.  He is the LSUHSC Principal Investigator for the American Lung Association’s Asthma Clinical Research Center. His research also includes the effects of alcohol abuse on the lung.  At ILH, he is the lead clinician for the Chest Clinic and chairs the Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee.



Dr. David Janz

Dr. Janz joined our Section as Assistant Professor of Medicine. His academic, clinical and research interest involve outcomes in critically ill patients in the ICU. Dr. Janz completed both a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Sarah Jolley

Dr. Jolley joined our Section as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Jolley's research interests involve early mobilization of critically ill patients. Dr. Jolley completed both a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Master's of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Stephen Kantrow

Dr. Kantrow is Professor of Medicine and the Director for the Fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center. He specializes in respiratory neuromuscular disease, critical care, thoracic malignancy, tobacco control and palliative care.




Dr. Matthew Lammi

Dr. Lammi is Assistant Professor of Medicine with clinical and research interests in pulmonary hypertension, exercise physiology and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.  He serves as the attending physician on pulmonary consultations and medical intensive care unit services.

Dr. Carol Mason

Dr. Mason is Professor of Medicine, Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy at ILH, Staff Physician at Ochsner Kenner and the Section Chief. She specializes in all aspects of pulmonary disease and serves as the attending physician on general medicine services, pulmonary consultation services and medical intensive care unit services.

Dr. Judd Shellito

Dr. Shellito is Professor of Medicine specializing in occupational/ environmental medicine as it applies to the lungs and in the medical/ legal issues of respiratory impairment/disability. He also provides consultative expertise for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, smoking cessation and pulmonary rehabilitation.



Dr. Richard Tejedor

Dr. Tejedor is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. He specializes in asthma management, bronchoscopic treatment of emphysema and portable sleep monitoring. He is one of the only few physicians in the region performing an innovative procedure called bronchial thermoplasty or thermal bronchoplasty for patients with severe asthma.



Dr. David Welsh

Dr. Welsh is Professor of Clinical Medicine. He oversees the HIV Chest Clinic and specializes in HIV-associated pulmonary disease and emphysema. Dr. Welsh’s research activities are focused on the biology of adult bone marrow derived stem cells and organ specific microbiota.
