Letter From the Chairman

I am honored and humbled to succeed Dr. Chris Winters as Chair of Urology at LSU Health New Orleans. Dr. Winters has left his mark on urology as a whole, and more specifically, rebuilt LSU Urology during the restructuring of the local medical community following Hurricane Katrina. He has earned a much-deserved break from departmental duties to determine how he will continue to influence the urologic community for years to come.
Being a department chair was not in any draft of my career plan until recently. I’ve enjoyed my clinical practice and leadership opportunities at Manning Family Children's Hospital and I’m grateful to my partners there for supporting me and LSU Urology during this next chapter. I’m a strong believer in maintaining a mindset that prepares one for the unknown. This has been helpful in navigating the unpredictable nature of clinical practice and assessing career opportunities such as leading this group of excellent faculty, staff, and residents.
Much like the Louisiana landscape, the local healthcare market is shifting with time. This creates change and change creates opportunity. Being able to appreciate those opportunities and meet the associated challenge is only possible if we can trust those navigating these times with us. My primary aim is to foster a culture in the department where all can be counted on to do their part to position LSU Urology at the forefront of patient care and resident education.
We have a core group of dedicated faculty that are ready to embrace what is next. I am excited to see what they continue to build at University Medical Center, Touro Infirmary, and Manning Family Children’s Hospital. We have the strongest and most diverse group of residents who work hard to advance their own education while delivering urologic care with compassion and pride in their work.
I am thrilled to see what the future holds for LSU Urology and appreciate you taking the time to visit our site. Please reach out if there is anything that the department can do for you.
Sincerely,
Christopher 'Chip' Roth, MD
