Spirit of Charity Level One Trauma Center Psychiatry Research Unit
Dr. Erich Conrad is the head of the Spirit of Charity Trauma Center Psychiatry Research Unit at University Medical Center. He has also served as principle or sub-investigator in numerous clinical trials at the LSU BRC.  Research endeavors at the Trauma Center include collaborative efforts with the trauma surgery services in screening victims of violence and addressing psychiatric sequelae of traumatic physical injury. Violence prevention research in this at-risk group is also underway.

The Harris Infant Mental Health Center
The Harris Center for Infant Mental Health of the LSUHSC Department of Psychiatry is devoted to the study and treatment of infants and young children.  The goals of the Center are:

  • To develop a crucial number of mental health professionals locally, nationally, and internationally trained to evaluate and treat infants.
  • To develop networks to provide support for individuals working with infants.
  • To bring together individuals from different mental health disciplines who will have a core set of skills and knowledge to assess and treat infants.
  • To develop expertise in evaluation and treatment for high-risk infants.
  • To educate the judges, lawyers and court personnel on the effects of violence on young children.

There are also numerous other research projects that trainees can participate in during their years of training such as ongoing projects in the Weight Management/Bariatric Surgery Clinic, Collaborative care in the Gastroenterology Clinic, as well as additional opportunities from faculty which can be found on individual faculty bios.
