Section of Psychology

Welcome to the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Section of Psychology. Our section of the Department of Psychiatry currently consists of 15 licensed psychologists as well as psychologists appointed as adjunct gratis faculty. We value our role and contributions on multidisciplinary teams and collaborate weekly with psychiatrists and social workers to optimize the care we provide to our patients. Our faculty have made valuable contributions in the areas of teaching, supervision, scholarship, service and community engagement within LSUHSC as well as the larger field of psychology.

The psychology faculty is responsible for teaching and supervising medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, social work trainees, as well as residents and trainees from other departments. We are particularly proud of our internship in clinical psychology which is offered to 6 graduate students in psychology from across the country each year. We place significant emphasis on quality supervised clinical experience in this program and maintain professional relationships with many of our alumni. We also offer post-doctoral fellowships in clinical psychology at our various rotations.

Within the Section, psychologists are actively engaged in scholarly activities and research, resulting in peer reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, convention presentations, as well as funded grants and contracts. The psychology faculty provides a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to a diverse patient population ranging from infants to adults. These clinical services are provided in public and private inpatient and outpatient settings in collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other mental health professionals. We also chair and serve on many departmental, medical school, and health sciences center committees, as well as consult with numerous community agencies. Please refer to other areas on our website for information on the internship program, fellowships, the contributions of individual faculty members, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and other aspects of our section within the Department of Psychiatry.

The Section of Psychology is a rewarding and enriching environment in which to work. There are wonderful opportunities for professional and personal growth and development in a city that is truly unique. We take great pride in our commitment to understanding our local cultural practices and are always seeking opportunities to expand our perspectives to learn more. Whether it is catching throws at a parade during carnival season or eating beignets at Cafe Du Monde, we love to share the culture of New Orleans with others, and hope that the community we have built can feel at home to you as well.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information, do not hesitate to contact me.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!
