Dr. Brian Boulmay recently published a case report in the Ochsner Journal: Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Cancer to the Liver: The Central Role of a Multidisciplinary Approach to Treatment.

Dr. Christine Butts and Dr. Nicole Kaban (Emergency Medicine Section), along with LSU Neurosurgeons published Ultrasound of the Optic Nerve Does Not Appear to be a Consistently Reliable or Generalizable Method to Monitor Changes to Intracranial Pressure in the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine.

Dr. Augustin Garcia recently published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment: The Wisdom Study: A New Approach to Screening Can and Should be Tested

Dr. Stephen Lim (EM Section) had a paper accepted (Academic Emergency Medicine Physicians' Anxiety Levels, Stressors and Potential Stress Mitigation Measures during the Acceleration Phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic) assessing anxiety and burnout levels, home life changes and measures to relieve stress among US academic EM physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic acceleration phase.

Dr. Meghan Maslanka (ED Section) recently published a paper (Unconventional Care at a Convention Center: An Overview of Patient Focused Care at a COVID-19 Alternative Care Site in New Orleans) on the alternative care site opened by the state of Louisiana during the early days of COVID-19. The paper describes the policies/protocols, interventions and resources that were most successful in serving the population.

Dr. Daniel (Danny) Raines (Gastroenterology Section) had two recent publications in JAMA and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America assessing Video Capsule Endoscopy in the management of GI bleeding: Assessment of Video Capsule Endoscopy in the Management of Acute Gastrointestinal Bleeding During the COVID-19 Pandemic and The Role of Provocative Testing and Localization of the Video Capsule Endoscope in the Management of Small Intestinal Bleeding.

Dr. Suki Subbiah (Hematology-Oncology Section) had two recent publications in JAMA Oncology and Annals of Oncology: Association of Clinical Factors and Recent Anticancer Therapy with COVID-19 Severity Among Patients with Cancer: A Report from the COVID-19 and Cancer Consortium and Association of Convalescent Plasma Therapy with Survival in Patients with Hematologic Cancers and COVID-19.

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Joel Jones, MD, Jill D'Souza, MD, and Belinda Mantle, MD were published in the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology in August documenting the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on clinical and operative case volume for pediatric otolarynoglogy. Pediatrics

Pediatrics Division of Cardiology's Marla Johnston, RN, MSN and Dr. Tamara Bradford co-authored the publication “Effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA Vaccination Against COVID-19 Hospitalization Among Persons Aged 12-18 Years - United States, June-September 2021,” in a recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report from the CDC. 

Shubho Sarkar, MD recently published in article in AAP News. The article titled Some Physicians Keeping a Tight Grip on Their Pager; Why They Need to Let Go was published on October 1. You can view the article here.

Gratis faculty member Dr. Jim Hempe was recently published along with his colleagues at Pennington Biomedical and Tulane University: Hempe JM, Yang S, Liu S, Hsia DS. Psychiatry

The following citation is for a research project initially started in 2016 with Dr. David Yang, who was a medical student at LSU Health New Orleans. Dr. Yang is now completing his residency at Yale School of Medicine. The study team, which included Dr. Michelle Moore from the Department of Psychiatry, recently published an article on the findings of their survey aimed to understand the mental health needs of Asian American medical students: Yang, D., Oral, E., Kim, J., Craft, T. & Moore, M.B. Drs. Mark Townsend, Michelle Moore and Lindsey Poe worked together to further understand how interprofessional education is beneficial to trainees from psychiatry and psychology.
