Dr. Meredith Clement was invited to give a talk entitled "PrEP For All."

Dr. Kristy Ray is a recent graduate from the LSU Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship and faculty (Emergency Medicine) as well as a fellow at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Dr. Ray just received her flight wings from NASA.

Kevin McLaughlin, MD presented educational seminars on the treatment of nasal polyps at the Tampa Greater ENT Society (October 20); Mobile AL ENT (October 21); Huntsville AL (October 26); Naples FL ENT Society (October 27); as well as virtual presentations to St. Louis MO and Baltimore MD physicians (September 23 and October 28, respectively).

Joel Jones, MD, Jairo Torres, MD, and Adele Evans, MD submitted ”Telehealth Adoption and Perspectives Among Pediatric Otolaryngologists Following the COVID-19 Pandemic” to the International Journal of Pediatric Otolaryngology on October 24, 2021.

Pediatrics

Multiple faculty participated in the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatric Red River Potpourri Virtual CME Conference:

Dr. Isa Ashoor has shared his national presentation on harnessing the power of Twitter. Physiology

Dr. Patricia Molina gave invited talks titled “Unravelling the neurobiological consequences of traumatic brain injury” (Shock Society Virtual Webinar Series, July 2021) and “Historical perspective of the National Hispanic Science Network; El Faro still stands!” (National Hispanic Science Network [NHSN] Annual Conference, September 2021). She was also a panelist in the virtual Black in Physiology Week panel titled “How to Effectively Maneuver through the Early Stages of Academia” on September 20, 2021. 

Dr. Lisa Harrison-Bernard was invited to give a seminar in the College of Pharmacy at Nova Southeastern University titled “Combating racial inequities in science.”

Dr. Stefany Primeaux gave a seminar titled “Role of lingual fat sensing on fat intake, fat preference and obesity” at Tulane University Brain Institute on Sept. 15, 2021.

Dr. Danielle Levitt gave a 2-part PREP workshop titled “Mental health in STEM.” She also co-chaired symposia titled “Emerging topics: Short- and longterm implications of COVID-19 on substance use” and “New investigators in drug abuse research panel” at the NHSN Annual Conference in September, 2021.

Taylor Templeton, Jessi Cucinello Ragland, Muhammad Farooq, Samira Mohammad, and Heather Soileau represented ADACE, the PREP program, and ENDURE program at Xavier University's Recovery Day 2021.

 

Psychiatry

Dr. Margaret Bishop-Baier organized a Department Day of Service in October for the Department of Psychiatry to volunteer with St. Bernard Project and assist with disaster relief efforts in communities heavily impacted by Hurricane Ida.

Dr. Cody Roi will present at the 2021 annual meeting for the Society for the Study of Psychiatry and Culture. His presentation will be focused on "Advancing Equitable Care: Taking Action to Address Sociocultural Influences on Pediatric Psychiatric Practices."
