The Pulse

Denise Flock-Williams

This past quarter has demonstrated to me once again what a great privilege I have as the editor of The Pulse. Through this role, I continue to enjoy my front row seat to the amazing people who make up the LSU School of Medicine. Every day I receive messages about a new discovery or invention, acts of care or community service, remarkable and memorable teaching and training, and the long lists of awards and publications as a result.

Among the many articles in Top Stories, I hope you will take time to read the two about the Precision Medicine Lab, which continues to make headlines for its efforts in the fight against COVID. It identified the Omicron variant in December, putting our leaders and the general public on notice that this new, highly contagious variant was among us. The Precision Medicine Lab has earned the prestigious College of America Pathologists accreditation. Our amazing assistant editor of The Pulse, Dr. Judy Crabtree, is the lab's Scientific and Education Director.

I also hope you will take the time to read the March Spotlight. Dr. Jeffrey Carter has developed “spray-on skin” to treat burn victims. His invention is cutting recovery time from burns in half, reducing pain, hospital stays and patient care costs throughout southern Louisiana.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share with me the wonderful stories and updates that happen every day within the LSU School of Medicine. I am grateful for the opportunity to share the outstanding work that each and every one of you do. Please continue to contact me at dflock@lsuhsc.edu anytime with an idea for a story, information or pictures that we can share. As always, I extend additional thanks to Dr. Judy Crabtree, Todd LaGrange, Dr. Richard DiCarlo, and now Dr. Stephanie Taylor, who all work behind the scenes to get each issue published.
