In an email to LSU School of Medicine faculty and staff, Cindy P. Nguyen, Class of 2023 GHHS President, said, “We are greatly appreciative of all that you have done for the students of the LSU School of Medicine, and will continue to do in the years to come. Thank you for being role models to students and colleagues, and for having such a profound impact on the members of our chapter! Congratulations!”

Nguyen also announced the Class of 2023-2024 resident and faculty nominations for initiation into Gold Humanism Honor Society LSUHSC New Orleans Chapter:

Residents: Dr. Ashley Van and Dr. Megan Terrebonne
Faculty: Dr. Jerussa Aita-Levy

Physicians nominated for initiation into the society are considered exemplars of empathy, compassion, altruism, and integrity. Their dedication to service in working with patients and others in the field of medicine inspires their students to nominate them for this honor.

The Gold Humanism Honor Society also announced Yasmeen Kawji, with her essay titled “Ice Chips Please?” as this year’s winner of its Humanism in Medicine essay contest. The first-place winner of the essay contest receives a monetary award from the School of Medicine and the honor of reading her essay at the Class of 2024’s GHHS Induction Ceremony as well as to the new first year class at their White Coat Ceremony.

The society also recognized Sophie Palopoli with the essay “Witness to it All,” as the second-place winner and a tie for third place between Mirandy Li with the essay, “When Your Patient Hates You” and Kim Tran with the essay "Come What May: A Lesson Before Dying."

The Gold Humanism Honor Society also announced the Class of 2024's newest members of the LSUHSC Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

"The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) recognizes students, residents and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine. GHHS members are peer nominated and are the ones that others say they want taking care of their own family."

These students were chosen by their classmates for being role models of empathy, service, altruism, compassion, respect, and integrity, as well as valuing the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social responsibility.
