Dr. Christopher Roth Named Urology Department Head

Christopher Roth, MD, has agreed to serve as the department head for urology, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Roth obtained his bachelor’s in microbiology from LSU and received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine Shreveport in 2002. He completed his urology residency at the combined LSUHSC/Ochsner Clinic Foundation program in 2007 and fellowship in pediatric urology at Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 2009.

Dr. Roth joined the faculty in 2009 as an assistant professor and was promoted to professor of clinical urology in 2024. He has served as vice-chair of pediatric urology, a member of the Faculty Assembly, chair of the Urology Clinical Competency and Program Evaluation Committees and the LSUHSC Urology Alumni Society Chair. At Manning Family Children’s (formerly Children’s Hospital), Dr. Roth has served as Medical Staff President, Urology Service Line Chief, and Chair of the Medical Staff Department of Surgery and Credentials Committees. He has also served as a member of the Medical Executive, Infection Control, Credentials and Peer Review Committees, and the Board of Trustees representative for the medical staff, LCMC Health, and Patient Safety and Quality Committee.

Dr. Roth said he feels fortunate and grateful to have had clinical and administrative leadership opportunities at both LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans and Manning Family Children’s.

“These experiences provided me with valuable exposure to LSUHSC and LCMC leadership. While it is not common for a pediatric urologist to chair a urology department, my background allows me to bring and provide an outside perspective to an internal position,” he said. “My initial primary focus for the department will be to foster growth of the clinical operations for our faculty treating adults and refocusing the educational structure for our residents. I am excited about this new challenge, and I expect to learn a lot along the way!”

Dr. Roth was selected as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha as a medical student, was a recipient of the LSUHSC Chancellor’s Excellence Award and the LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award. He is known nationally and internationally and  recently completed his term as President of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists, served three years as the annual meeting chair and currently serves on the executive board. Internationally, Dr. Roth serves on the scientific committee for the European Society of Pediatric Urology 2025 World Congress of Pediatric Urology. He has published almost 50 papers, multiple book chapters, 75 published abstracts, and has been an invited speaker at several meetings and plenary sessions.
