Office of Faculty Affairs Update

The Office of Faculty Affairs offers a wide range of resources and programs to support faculty at all career stages and across all LSU campuses. Our faculty contribute to LSU’s clinical, educational, and research missions through teaching, discovery, training, and practice across diverse areas of academic medicine. Collaboration is at the heart of our work as we strive to meet the needs of students, trainees, patients, and colleagues. All faculty development initiatives are designed with our faculty’s needs in mind.  Check the website for additional information and dates for all upcoming sessions.

Medical Education Scholarship Community
LSU SoM faculty are amazing educators. Dissemination of medical education scholarship is how we share our work with the world and how the field of medical education progresses. Are you interested in diving deeper into medical education research and scholarship? There are new opportunities to jump in. Whether you are curious to learn more, have a project in mind, or just want to connect with others doing this work, you are welcome in the LSU SoM community for medical education scholarship. It’s a great way to build skills, spark new ideas, and get involved in projects that make a real difference for learners and faculty alike.

All are welcome to join these sessions.  Check the website for additional dates. Contact Dr. Amy Creel for calendar invites.

  • February 26th 4-5 p.m. - in person, Lion’s Building 6th floor, small conference room 5 - Idea Incubator - The first in a monthly, interactive series to share ideas, get feedback, identify collaborators, or request consultation and trouble shooting. Meetings will alternate between in person and Zoom. Participants may sign up to informally present their idea.
  • March 2nd noon - Zoom - Lunch and Learn - Join for a didactic session while you eat lunch. This session will offer an overview of education scholarship, including why it matters and how to recognize the scholarship potential in work you may already be doing.
  • April 8th 1 p.m. - Zoom - Writing accountability session - After a brief introduction, we will dedicate time to writing. Bring a project in progress or data you've been meaning to develop into an abstract or manuscript. You can write independently or use breakout rooms for feedback and help with editing.

Curriculum Vitae Support

A detailed example of the CV format is now available on the Faculty Affairs website. A new instruction page provides additional descriptions to help faculty and staff format the CV consistently across departments. Faculty are encouraged to reach out to the Faculty Affairs Office with questions or to schedule a meeting for individual CV formatting support. De-identified CVs are also available for the Clinical, Research, and Instruction tracks to help envision what the final product should look like.

Promotion and Tenure Guidelines Revisions

We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to share their insights and suggestions; your input directly informed the updates. Based on feedback gathered through listening sessions and the online survey distributed to faculty and staff, we convened a Guidelines Revisions Committee to review and refine the guidelines document. The major revisions to the P&T Guidelines include:

  • Addition of the new LSU System Instruction Track
  • Removal of pathways from Research Track
  • Clarifying language on the Clinical pathways regarding percentage of effort
  • Clarifying language for time in rank
  • General suggestions to assist with determination of the level of engagement
  • Additional information regarding Tenure Track Switches
  • Additional information regarding tenure upon initial appointment or hire.

Pending approval, revised P&T Guidelines will be posted soon on the Office of Faculty and Institutional Affairs website.
