Dr. Jaime Alleyn Named Department Head for Obstetrics and Gynecology

Jaime Alleyn, MD, was announced as the new Department Head for Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), effective March 1, 2026. 

Dr. Alleyn joined the faculty in 2006 as a clinical instructor, was promoted to assistant professor of OB/GYN in 2013 and to associate professor of OB/GYN in 2018. Over his 20-year career at the school, he has served in multiple leadership roles. Currently, he is the departmental Ambulatory Services Director, Division Director of the Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the OB/GYN Student Clerkship Director. He is a member of the Clerkship Directors, Clinical Competency, Undergraduate Medical Education, Departmental Promotions and Residency Program Application Review Committees, and the OB/GYN Educational Executive Group. He is also the Faculty Advisor for the student OB/GYN Interest Group and has served on multiple School of Medicine and hospital committees.

“I am deeply honored to serve as chair of the LSU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Together, we will establish our department as the leader in women's health across the state of Louisiana. Our mission is clear: to educate and inspire the next generation of OB/GYN physicians while delivering the highest standard of compassionate, evidence-based care to every patient we serve,” he said.

Dr. Alleyn is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has completed the LSUHSC Master Teacher program and has received several teaching awards. He was awarded the Association of Professors of OB/GYN Excellence in Teaching (three times), the Aesculapian Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Academic Specialist in General OB/GYN Faculty award and the Golden Pessary Award for Excellence in Mentoring. He was also a previous nominee for the prestigious LSUHSC Allen Copping Award for Excellence in Teaching.

He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC, a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and completed a residency in OB/GYN at Tulane University School of Medicine.
